About this concert
Caity Gyorgy is a dazzling force in contemporary jazz, celebrated for her virtuosic vocals, inventive songwriting, and irresistible swing. Hailing from Calgary, Canada, Gyorgy (pronounced “George”) has rapidly ascended the jazz world, earning three JUNO Awards for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year by age 24—a testament to her artistry and impact. Renowned for her mastery of bebop and swing, she brings a breezy, effortless quality to her singing, with improvisations that sparkle with wit and technical brilliance. Gyorgy’s original compositions, steeped in the tradition of the Great American Songbook but refreshed with modern lyrics and sensibilities, have won international acclaim—including the Grand Prize in the jazz category of the 2021 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Her albums, such as Now Pronouncing, Featuring, and Hello! How Are You?, showcase her ability to blend classic jazz idioms with contemporary flair, often collaborating with some of Canada’s top jazz musicians. Her new duo album Asking for Trouble was released in April 2025 on La Reserve Records and features pianist Mark Limacher, celebrating the music of iconic composer and lyricist Frank Loesser. Whether on stage or in the studio, Caity Gyorgy’s magnetic presence and creative spirit make her one of the most exciting voices in jazz today.
