Moravian Biography
Moravian is a Detroit‑born indie‑rock band known for their unfiltered energy, melodic hooks, and emotionally charged performances. The group originally came together in summer 2022, featuring Alex Christ on lead vocals, Blake Potvin on guitar, Coby Valead on bass, and Ricardo Velez behind the kit - founding members who set the tone for the band’s punchy, heartfelt sound.
Since forming, the band has become a staple in Michigan’s live music scene, playing venues such as The Loving Touch in Ferndale, Detroit’s Lager House, The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids’ Pyramid Scheme, Bell’s Eccentric Café in Kalamazoo, and The Crofoot in Pontiac. They've also performed countless DIY shows across popular college towns, building a dedicated fanbase along the way.
In 2023, Moravian released three singles - “Cocaine,” “Infatuation,” and “Figure It Out” - which garnered attention for their raw energy and catchy hooks. These tracks led to their debut EP, Moravian Drive, released in February 2024. The band continued to build momentum with their second EP, Call It What You Want, released in October 2024, followed by a Midwest tour hitting cities like Nashville, Columbus, Chicago, Cincinnati, and Cleveland.
Their latest single, “Tell Me Why,” released in May 2025, was the final track recorded with original guitarist Tomi Baumeister - a founding member. Shane Wheeler has since joined the band permanently on rhythm guitar, bringing fresh dynamics to their live performances.
Looking ahead, Moravian is set to embark on their most ambitious tour yet - the “Tell Me Why” Tour. This summer, they'll revisit familiar Midwest cities and expand to new territories, including New York City, Boston, Charlotte, Atlanta, and Charleston. Additionally, the band will perform their first international shows in Windsor, Hamilton, and Toronto, marking a significant milestone in their journey.
Moravian channels Detroit’s raw energy and DIY spirit into a sound that’s both timeless and relentlessly evolving. With each punchy riff and emotionally charged performance, they continue to captivate audiences and push the boundaries of indie rock, carrying their fire forward - one packed stage at a time.
