About this concert

Mimika Orchestra Biography
Mimika Orchestra is a progressive jazz orchestra formed in London, UK and currently based in Zagreb, Croatia. It was formed by the Croatian multi-instrumentalist and composer Mak Murtić and vocalist Maja Rivić in 2010.
Their latest release, “Divinities of the Earth and the Waters”, centres around the 19th century Balkans and follows a protagonist through his life journey which parallels the ancient cyclical view of the world. The music draws from narratives in archaic South Slavic languages as well as folk music, to contemporary jazz and comparisons to Sun Ra, Tigran Hamasyan and Ivo Papasov.
Mimika played at the London Jazz Festivals 2012/14/15, Love Supreme Jazz Festival 2014 (Winners of the Jazz FM Discovery Competition), Latitude Festival, Olympic & Paralympic Festival, and renowned London venues such as The Vortex Jazz Club, Bussey Building, Union Chapel, and Courtyard Theatre. They have also been featured on BBC Radio, Jazz FM, Worldwide FM and other major radio stations across Europe.
