About this concert
"John Clayton is one of the most technically imposing bassists in jazz" —The New York Times
“ETHEL are an infectiously visceral quartet…their playing tends to be lusty, committed, charged with messy exuberance.” —Pitchfork
Overview
Experience the captivating synergy of John Clayton, a master of the bass, and the innovative ETHEL Quartet. Their collaboration weaves together the rich, resonant tones of Clayton's bass with the quartet's dynamic string arrangements, creating a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly new.
“Borrowing from rock’s defiant rawness, [ETHEL] spikes string-quartet suavity with grit reminiscent of photographic grain: scraping, vigorous bow attacks, the microtonal friction of bluesy inflections, the slight metallic buzz of amplification," said The Boston Globe.
From soulful melodies to intricate improvisations, their performances are a journey through the heart of music, showcasing the power and beauty of string instruments. Join us for an evening of unparalleled artistry and discover the magic that happens when jazz and classical worlds collide.

The show was magical! All members of the string quartet ETHEL are top musicians and Ron Carter is one of the best bass players. I highly recommend seeing ETHEL when they perform at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Balcony Bar, some Friday and Saturday evenings. And check out their music on their website ethelcentral.com
