About this concert
Mr. Tambourine Man not only lived history, he made history with his fearless sense of experimentation. As the leader of the influential ’60s group, The Byrds, Roger McGuinn was on the leading edge, combining the rock beat of the Beatles with the folk sensibilities of Bob Dylan, to create the genre known as “folk-rock.” An Evening with Roger McGuinn begins with the stage dark and the sound of Roger’s 12-string Rickenbacker guitar filling the house as he approaches the standing microphone to sing his signature Bob Dylan song “My Back Pages.” He always begins his concerts with this song because he takes the audience on the journey through which his love of folk music took him to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In the mid 1960's the Byrds burst into the rock music world with two singles, "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Turn! Turn! Turn!" Both became #1 hits and altered the direction of American popular music. Blending American folk harmonies with the rock and roll sound of the Beatles, the Byrds created a folk-rock niche that changed continues to evolve to this day. At the heart of the Byrds sound was the distinctine sound of a soaring 12-string Rickenbacker guitar, played by Roger Mcguinn. We are indeed fortunate that all these decades later, Roger McGuinn continues to tour and recreate all those classic sounds. Amazingingly, Roger's vocals are as strong as ever, and his shows are full of those one of a kind guitar sounds that vaulted the Byrds into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame more than three decades ago. Working with three different guitars and a banjo, Roger's shows take audiences on a musical journey that starts during his youth in the 1950's, moving through the folk era, and finally to the sixties and beyond. Deftly blending stories with his songs, Roger engages his audiences from start to finish. Audience members often find themselves singing along. They are also treated to stories about his musical collaborations with Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Bobby Darin, and so many others. In his autobiography, written decades ago, fellow Byrd David Crosby refererred to Roger as a genius. Time has borne that out. Now in his seventh decade as a professional musician, Roger McGuinn continues to produce sounds that are classic, unique and eloquent. The shows are ever changing and continue to evolve. If Roger McGuinn is performing anywhere near your locaton in the future, you would be well advised to buy a ticket!
