Madeleine Stewart Biography

I'm a fiddle player based in Glasgow. I play traditional music, and I currently play with The Madeleine Stewart Trio, The Routes Quartet and Eriska. I also help run The Folks' Music Project, providing music education around the greater Glasgow area. I moved to Scotland from the USA back in 2014 to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and I ended up sticking around!

Some highlights so far:
* Playing with my trio at my dad’s brewery. I don’t get to go home much and it was really lovely to do a show at home for people I grew up with.
* Recording the Routes Quartet album! (Which we’ll be releasing at Celtic!) We spent a week in the middle of nowhere doing basically nothing but playing and recording music. It was the most intense week I’ve ever had, in a really good way - it was exciting and I learned so much from everyone who was there.
* Putting on our first community ceilidh with the Folks’ Music Project. So lovely to see students, families and members of the community dancing together or just enjoying the music!
* Playing a set with Liz Carroll at the Scots Fiddle Festival, which was amazing since I’ve been playing her tunes and listening to her albums since I was a kid.
* HebCelt’s festival club with Eriska. So much fun!
* I got the chance to go to Celtic Colours as part of Úr, the band RCS sends over. That whole thing was brilliant: arranging sets, rehearsing, performing, and experiencing the festival.
