Torch Biography

Faster, heavier & louder! That was the motto when Torch started back in 1981. Five young metalheads in the small town of Eskilstuna, Sweden with a big dream and burning ambitions. They were Dan Dark on vocals, Chris J First and Claus Wild on guitars, Ian Greg on bass and Steve Streaker on drums. They recorded one EP (Fire Raiser), two Albums (Torch & Electrikiss) and toured Sweden and Europe. They even managed to get thrown off a Motörhead tour for thrashing a drum kit. The band eventually burned out and disbanded in 1986

Torch only burned for a few short years, but they made a bigger impact than they realized. There was Robb Flynn from Machine Head on Spotify saying that the first song they performed was a Torch song, there was Snowy Shaw from King Diamond saying that he named his first band after a Torch song, there were Bullet saying that Torch helped them get through their boring day jobs.

There were many requests to reunite and finally in 2013 four out five original members got together with old-time friend and guitarist Håkky to play at a Rock at Sea. The comeback gig was as a success, and Torch realized that they still had the flame. More gigs followed. An appearance at Sweden Rock Festival in 2018 was the highlight, where they earned an 8/10 rating by Sweden Rock Magazine (same as Iron Maiden). Not happy with only living on nostalgia, Torch started writing and recording new material.

The recording of the new album, Reignited, was finalized in 2019. The album was produced and recorded by the band. Grammy-nominated producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, U.D.O., Pretty Maids and many others) was brought in to do the mixing and mastering.

Reignited was released in Sept 2020 on Metalville Records to an overwhelming reception.

During the pandemic Torch had the time to revisit a recording from their Sweden Rock Festival appearance in 2018. Once again Jacob Hansen was brought in to mix and master and the album Live Fire was released in July 2022 on Metalville Records.

Singer Dan Dark left the band in 2022, due to health issues. He was replaced by
Lasse Gudmundsson (Revelations, Lizard Eye and many others). Lasse turned to be the perfect replacement and successful shows at Keep it True and Ruhrpot Metal Meeting festivals in Germany and Rock at Sea in Sweden followed. Torch also performed together with Mikkey Dee in their hometown of Eskilstuna.

Torch are currently in the studio recording the follow-up to “Reignited”. The album is scheduled to be released in 2025, but the plan is to release a couple of singles in the fall of 2024 as an appetizer.
