‘Wat zingen zij superieur’, schreef de Volkskrant over folkduo The Lasses. Sophie Janna en Margot Merah staan bekend om hun geweldige vertolkingen van Ierse, Schotse en Amerikaanse folk, en hun troostrijke eigen werk. Hun tweestemmigheid is uniek en met hun ontspannen podiumpresentatie weten ze elk publiek voor zich te winnen.
De afgelopen jaren reisden The Lasses de hele wereld over. Met hun sterke harmonieën, ongedwongen stemgeluid en afwisselende repertoire zijn ze een veelgevraagd duo in de internationale folkscene: ze speelden in Schotland, Engeland en Amerika, maar ook in Ierland, Canada, Japan en verschillende landen op het Europese vasteland. In Nederland spelen The Lasses voornamelijk in het theater, maar ook in oude kerkjes en op intieme luisterpodia en festivals.
Verhalende ballads worden afgewisseld met opzwepende nummers waar de intensiteit vanaf spat. Traditionele Schotse of Ierse liedjes worden aangevuld met eigen nummers in dezelfde stijl en begeleid op gitaar, bodhrán (Ierse drum) ukulele, shrutibox en mondharmonica. Centraal bij The Lasses staat altijd de samenzang waarbij de stemmen elkaar perfect aanvullen en versterken.

The Lasses Biography
Even before they ever spoke they sang together, at a session in Irish pub Mulligans in Amsterdam. Now Sophie Janna and Margot Merah tour all around the world with their invigorating repertoire of Scottish, Irish and American folk and intimate self-penned songs. Their strong harmonies, unaffected vocals and choice of songs makes them a sought after duo in the international folk scene. The past few years saw them tour the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Scotland, England, the United States, Canada and Japan. Their fourth album 'Undone' was released in the fall of 2019. Accompanying themselves on bodhrán, tenor ukulele and guitar, the unique blend of the women’s voices always takes the center stage.
