Cidny Bullens Biography
CIDNY/CINDY BULLENS
This two-time Grammy nominee’s career has taken Cidny from singing back-up, performing on tour, and in the studio with Elton John, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, Gene Clark, and others, and singing three lead vocals on the “Grease” movie soundtrack to having nine critically acclaimed and award-winning solo albums.
Cid’s friends on the albums include friends Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Bryan Adams, Emmylou Harris, Delbert McClinton, Mary Gauthier, Rodney Crowell and Sir Elton John himself. Cidny has co-written many songs in Nashville, producing several charting Country singles and is also one-third of “super-group”, The Refugees- with Wendy Waldman and Deborah Holland.
In 2012, Cidny made the difficult and daunting decision to transition from Cindy to Cidny. He wrote and performed his one-person mulit-media theatrical show Somewhere Between: Not An Ordinary Life from 2016-18 all across the U.S.
An award-winning documentary short, directed by T.J Parsell, about Cid's life called The Gender Line screened at major film festivals around the world from 2019-2022.
His first album since his transition from Cindy to Cidny, Little Pieces, was released on Kill Rock Star Records Nashville in October 2023. The first single “Not With You”, is a soulful duet written and sung with Cid’s longtime friend and Grammy nominated artist Beth Nielsen Chapman.
Little Pieces…A musical journey of the miracle that is Cidny Bullens. He HAD to do this. He had to musically tell his story. And it is SO moving. The Gender Line, Walkin’ Through This World, Call Me By My Name are killers. The playing and the sound are fabulous! Cidny has laid himself bare and the results are wonderful. ” — Sir Elton John
Plus, Cid’s memoir, TransElectric: My Life as a Cosmic Rock Star, with foreword by Sir Elton John was released on June 6, 2023, and is getting rave reviews. TransElectric is available on all major bookstore sites, and in your local bookstore.
“Cidny's lived one of the most extraordinary lives of any one I know. Multiple lives really- encompassing some the most compelling cultural and personal crossroads of our time. A firecracker of talent, personality and courage , his story makes for a riveting and heartwarming reading. So glad to have been part of the ride”. -BONNIE RAITT Multiple Grammy winning recording artist
In the summer/fall of 2024, Cid debuted his acting career on stage in Los Angeles creating the role of Albert, the lead character, in a new musical "The Civility of Albert Cashier".
He is currently working on new music for an upcoming album which will include a duet with longtime friend Lucinda Williams of Cid's poignant song “Boxing With God” from his renowned 1999 album Somewhere Between Heaven and Earth.
Along with continuing to write and perform his music, Cid is also a fierce transgender and LGBTQIA advocate and a highly regarded public speaker.
