Sophie Tassignon Biography
Sophie Tassignon is a Berlin-based vocalist, composer, and cultural bridge-builder whose genre-defying work spans jazz, electroacoustic composition, and multimedia performance. With a deep commitment to storytelling through sound, she weaves together diverse languages and poetic traditions, from Arabic and Hebrew to Russian and French. As the cofounder of the long-running chamber jazz ensemble AZOLIA and the innovative duet LOUISE ET VILMORIN, she also leads the project KHYAL—known for its acclaimed debut and the upcoming work Searching for Peace—bringing together powerful poetry and transcultural sound. She has released several critically acclaimed albums and performed across Europe and beyond. Her compositions often respond to pressing cultural and political themes, including her recent work A Slender Thread, exploring longing and resilience through multilingual electroacoustic soundscapes.
