Northaven Biography
Riding the line of indie folk and folk punk, Northaven is a document of interpersonal struggle, sometimes wrapped in tape saturation and sometimes shimmering in its arrangements. For Ian Garland, this project is as much of a diary or a release as it is a constant challenge to push themselves compositionally, lyrically and creatively.

Shortly after starting this project in 2019 with a few releases between bandcamp and streaming, Ian formed and spent a fair amount of the pandemic catching up to their bandmates musically. They had been tinkering with the bones of Post Pandemic Blues since the early summer of 2020, and putting it out was a milestone for achieving sounds they looked up to. Following that came the split ep with where they really sought to flesh out sounds they helped engineer on the more recent recordings. Having taken those challenges head on, they aim to push themselves in every way possible. Thievery at Capo Three is a testament to developing technique and lyricism that pushes their comfort zone and sonic spaces.
FFO: The Mountain Goats, Kimya Dawson, Rent Strike, Jeff Rosenstock when they play acoustic, Crywank, Paul Baribeau, Theo Hilton, Aaron West & The Roaring 20s and AJJ
