About this concert
St. Andrew’s Church, in partnership with Catamount Arts, is excited to present the next Community Coffeehouse Concert Series on Friday May 23 at 7pm, featuring the exciting Vermont acoustic duo Beecharmer. Host Bob Amos and folk duo Steve & Kate Davie will also perform.
Beecharmer is an acoustic duo from Wilder Vermont, featuring Jes Raymond and Jakob Breitbach. Over 10 years of international touring they have distilled their influences into a sound that is part festival and part mountain top. Jes and Jakob are both multi-instrumentalists who put together skillful flatpicking, clawhammer banjo, virtuosic fiddle, upright bass, time polished harmonies and award winning songwriting with elements of folk, bluegrass, old-time, jazz and pop.
Series host Bob Amos says “we are excited to bring this new music series to St. Johnsbury. The acoustics in the St. Andrew’s Church sanctuary are superb, and the space will be set up in an intimate coffeehouse style, with table seating as well as normal chair seating. A nice selection of food and beverages will be available, adding to the coffeehouse experience, so come early for a bite to eat (doors open at 6:15 pm). This series provides a performing opportunity in a beautiful smaller concert venue for the many wonderful singer-songwriters and folk ensembles we have in our region.”

Beecharmer Biography
Jes Raymond's songs connect the day-to-day with the muses of wonder and myth. They draw from the deep well of American Roots music for a modern sound that has a light-hearted rusticity, elegance, and soul. The Blackberry Bushes fall somewhere between Stevie Nicks, Gillian Welch, and The Infamous Stringdusters.
An award winning bluegrass & Americana band that is in moments haunting and in others: an all out revival. With a rotating cast of believers, Jes Raymond and Jakob Breitbach simultaneously honor the genius of tradition and innovation. Skillful flatpicking interlocks soundscapes with virtuosic fiddle improvisation and top-shelf songwriting.
The Bushes have that rare magic that allows them to fuse voices from many genres into an acoustic instrumentation that retains distinct threads of sonic color. They are emerging as artists with an obvious love of performing, spot on chemistry, and a live show that truly aims to stir the spirit. Jes' skillful flatpicking interlocks the band's soundscapes. Jakob’s virtuosic fiddle improvisation propels a song-focused band to expand outward in exploratory delight. Backed by a rotating cast of talented musicians, they simultaneously honor the genius of tradition and innovation. Elements of jazz, classical, pop, gospel, and bluegrass saturate the sound that is buoyant, bold, and like their thorny namesake, rooted and growing, growing, growing.
