About this concert
Beethoven exuberantly celebrates human strength in his virtuosic and optimistic Choral Fantasy. This work enchants us with a swirling dialogue between piano, choir, solo voices and orchestra. Music as an ode to joy and peace - why does that sound familiar…?
Bruckner’s symphonies are like monumental cathedrals, except for his sixth: ‘this seems more like a chapel, being intimate and transparent, standing in an open, sunny spot in a proud forest’, according to one reviewer. Bruckner himself called this symphony his boldest, with a finale that sums it up well: with its heroic themes, contemplative moments and a triumphant ending. A work that does not scream loudly for attention, but reveals its grandeur to those who embrace it with an open mind.
Joolz Gale is a versatile British conductor, renowned for his historically informed approach to choral and symphonic music. His energetic conducting style and strong connection to the audience make him one of the most inspiring conductors of his generation.
Russian pianist Boris Giltburg moved to Israel at a young age, where he studied with Arie Vardi. He won the 2002 Paloma O'Shea Santander International Piano Competition and also won the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Competition in 2013. Giltburg is known for his profound and sensitive interpretations and performs with leading orchestras worldwide.
