Brecht Valckenaers

In this solo recital, Festival artist-in-residence Brecht Valckenaers juxtaposes preludes and fugues by Shostakovich with piano work by Ustvolskaya. Whilst Dmitri was mainly inspired by the lyricism and Bach-like fine interplay of lines, Galina treats the piano mainly as a percussive instrument. She lets the pianist hammer without mercy, like a stray person confronting a closed gate. At his festival debut last year, Brecht presented himself as an extremely refined pianist.
