About this concert
Referred to as the "classic double threat" by NPR, Camille Thurman is equally adept on the tenor saxophone and vocals. The New York City-born artist has been compared to Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter, Dexter Gordon, and Joe Henderson. She has distinguished herself as a powerhouse musician and electrifying artist. Downbeat Magazine describes Camille as a performer who could shape Jazz for decades. She made a historic and memorable mark as the first woman to perform and tour full-time with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (2018-2020). Camille is making a name as a bandleader, collaborating with veteran New York Drummer Darrell Green.
Darrell Green is one of today’s leading, most sought-after masterful drummers on the Jazz scene and has toured with Pharoah Sanders, Wallace Roney, Antoine Roney, Cassandra Wilson, George Cables, and Stefon Harris. These two influential musicians have assembled a dynamic band with trumpeter Wallace Roney, Jr., pianist Jordan Williams, and bassist Paul Beaudry.
From Camille’s dreamy vocals, electrifying saxophone lines, and Darrell’s mesmerizing rhythmic colors to dynamic interpretations of standards and originals, this fiery musical collaborative team will make a significant impact for years to come. Renew your senses to what jazz sounds, looks, and feels like while listening to two of the most dynamic young, creative, and talented forces on the music scene.
