A Lens to the Sun

One of the most captivating acts to come out of San Diego in recent years, A Lens to the Sun fuses together an exhaustive set of genres to a degree unheard of in the modern music scene. While their wide-open take on songwriting has prevented them from finding a traditional niche to call home, it has also forced them to create an entirely new one all for themselves. However, as we must acknowledge, nothing is created in a vacuum. The magic of the new is embedded in the inversions and permutations of the old. A partial list of ingredients to their unique elixir can be found in the brooding rock of Radiohead and Muse, the sultry mysteriousness of the Cure, the innocent playfulness of Travis and nods to the new romantic era songwriters of the 1980s including Roxy Music, David Bowie, Sting, and Elvis Costello. As each of the six songs on their debut self-titled EP vary in size and statement, to the exclusion of everything else, they sound like A Lens to the Sun.
