Paul Armer Biography
With a voice and perspective that seems beyond his years, and a collection of honest, heartfelt songs that mirror and connect with an audience, Paul Armer is a singer-songwriter that deserves to be heard. Taking inspiration from various genres including bluegrass, country, folk, and artists such as Billy Strings, Jason Isbell, Tony Rice, and Bruce Springsteen, his sound resides where these influences meet.
As of late 2021, Paul became a fully self-employed musician after earning his stripes in bars, pubs, clubs, jams, at festivals, weddings and even the odd funeral. Having spent much of 2022 recording, Paul released his debut album in 2023. If it can fit into a genre, due to the various influences Paul has accumulated over the years, his album could be described as Americana, with hints of alternative country, folk and bluegrass.
Paul predominately plays his live shows solo, relying on just his voice, harmonicas and Martin Dreadnaught guitar. This is changing however, he can now increasingly be found joined by his band The Dawn Chorus. Paul Armer & The Dawn Chorus formed when the four met at one of the UK’s finest traditional bluegrass festivals and went on to win the scratch-band competition. It was immediately obvious they had something special and they’ve been working non-stop ever since, writing new music and refining their sound. Paul Armer and the Dawn Chorus will be releasing their debut EP in Autumn 2025.
Other projects include a bluegrass duo with Leanne Thorose, known as Armer & Thorose and a band local to his home town of Saltash, Cornwall known as Paul Armer & The Bluegrass Beys.
Due to his increasingly deep love of bluegrass music, Paul pushes his playing abilities and voice with every live performance. His sets incorporate his own original songs and traditional tunes, to create a performance that feels fresh but hints at the origins of the genres that influence him.
