As a lifelong music fan who's attended over 300 concerts—starting with the Grateful Dead back in 1974—I've seen my share of legends. My all-time favorite band is the Allman Brothers, whom I've caught more than 20 times, and these days, Kid Rock tops my list as an entertainer, having seen him over 10 times. But last night at Jacobs Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio, The Red Clay Strays delivered something truly unforgettable, inspiring me to write my first-ever review.
I went in expecting to hear one of the great voices in music today from lead singer Brandon Coleman, but I had no clue what the full band experience would bring. What I got was a phenomenal ensemble that blended southern rock, country, gospel, and blues into an emotional powerhouse. Coleman's vocals were unbelievable—raw, soulful, and commanding the stage. The two lead guitarists were beyond spectacular, trading riffs with precision and fire that evoked the best of my Allman Brothers memories. But the real standout was drummer John Hall, whose energy and passion were off the charts; he drove the set with an intensity that electrified the entire venue.
The night hit an emotional peak when the band paused to honor Hall's brother, Jacob, who tragically passed away five years ago to the day at just 23 years old. They shared a shot in his memory, then launched into a song dedicated to him, with Hall pouring his heart into every beat. The coincidence wasn't lost on anyone: performing at Jacobs Pavilion, which just so happened to share the name with Jacob. It brought tears to my eyes and added a layer of profound depth to an already stellar show.
If you're a fan of heartfelt, genre-bending music that hits you in the soul, don't miss The Red Clay Strays. Last night wasn't just a concert—it was an inspiration.
