Hope Slide Biography

Hope Slide is a six member Chamber Pop/Indie Rock band from Vancouver, BC formed by film school friends Calvin Jay (Vocals/Guitar/Saxophone), and percussionist Zane Klassen.

Their recording catalogue is as vibrant and transformative as their cathartic live act. With inspirations from 2000’s indie/baroque pop, and the ever enchanting modernism of post-punk, the group challenges genre with evocative vocals and intricate arrangements. Violin, cello, woodwinds, and classical-inspired piano decorate all-too-familiar tales of early to mid twenties longing.

From booking support slots for major talent like Panchiko, Spirit of the Beehive, Art D’ecco, and Friko, to creating a loyal fan base in the Vancouver scene, Hope Slide have quietly emerged as one of Western Canada’s most thrilling acts. “The band leans into lush, emotionally charged arrangements that harken back to the early 2000s heyday of baroque indie (think Broken Social Scene, Hey Rosetta!, and early Arcade Fire at its most discordant)” - Jeff Sanders, Georgia Straight.

Their first EP as a collaboration, Love Your Crooked Neighbour With Your Crooked Heart debuted on April 13th. “Pure sonic poetry…” – S2N Entertainment. From film references like lead single Manchester By the Sea, to locale name drops like Little Mountain, the sprawling full-length-like EP tells the tale of crushing loss, growth, and fright of living in Vancouver.
