About this concert
This innovative quartet from Toronto is simply terrific. Michael Bridge, who plays accordion, is one of the finest all-around musicians. Pianist Pouya Hamidi writes/arranges much of their music; cellist Beth Silver and percussionist Adam Campbell bring influences from world music, jazz and an eclectic range of other genres. For this concert we’re developing a program that takes advantage of the fact that the Raven’s Cry is a movie theatre. It’s a program about telling stories through music. Among other elements, Michael will improvise an accompaniment to a short silent film projected on the big screen, and the whole group will play along with a video that captures a suite of dances choreographed to an original composition of Pouya’s that explores his Persian heritage and the on-going struggle of women in Iran. Powerful stuff.
