First time at the venue that the GothTones played. If you like hidden gems tucked away from the main thoroughfare in a town known for Route 66 and Svengali, then this wacky club is you. They host an eclectic variety of genre. I like that their motto is like that sitcom; Cheers. It's accepting of all walks of like including the polite 4-legged kind. The club has plenty of drink but no food. Their policy is BYOF. How fabulous! I ran around the corner to another hidden gem for grub. I was held up by patrons for a chat while I waited. Suddenly, alarms, sirens, 4 firetrucks. It was loud enough to wake the dead. I grabbed my grub and bid adieu to the chatty bar patrons and noticed by now that the hub bub had dissipated. I entered the club, and the show was $10. What a bargain, the city venues are usually a lot more. I got a few cans and with food in hand, found myself a perch in which to roost and enjoy my food and drink until and while the show began. The first act was an abstract dance given by two women. The music accompaniment was an eclectic variety of sound and gutteral words obscured by the rhythmic notes floating on the air bouncing back at the audience with amplified high and low notes snd assorted shrilling. The women moved in slow motion, chanting here and there, twirling, laying down, meandering past the tables and chairs. The dance went on for at least a half hour. There was a set change, and eventually, the GothTones, after explaining the earlier reason for the firetrucks, were caused by their fog machine. So, no fog machine going forward. The better half of the hour, the lead singer on guitar and another nonverbal band member also with a guitar began to play. They had some kind of background noise that accompanied each song. On a wall, nearby, very old silent movies, follies and skits played out. At some point, the lead singer exclaimed he'd forgotten to mention the audience could claim a free band tee. I immediately launched myself towards said area where you gave a size, and the hand of the man dispensing them would pull out your size from the boxed, rolled up, rubber banded tees. The band took on a young musician from the audience who went on and played base. I at some point with 50 plus photographs in my phone I'd taken throughout the nite, I started chatting with one of the owners. I'll spare the details, but I recommend those places and the local grub joints. It was a perfect nite, beautiful summer weather, and, I would assume, everyone present enjoyed themselves throughly, I know I definitely did. I'll be back. I hope that now that I've discovered this place, they'll continue in their successful inventory of entertainment and good causes.
