About this concert
Piano Lunaire invites you to reconsider identities of Queer artists in contemporary classical music and reflect on the nature of the "Queer" musical canon, such as it is; such as it might be.
COMPOSERS IN PLAY XVI: Sounding the Queer Canon brings together the exceptional talents of mezzo-soprano Claire McCahan, baritone Nathaniel Sullivan and pianist/composer Adam Sherkin in a myriad song programme asking the big questions about a North American queer experience.
Composer Michael Genese joins in person for the Canadian premiere of their poignant and urgent, "The Boy with Baleen for Teeth" for mezzo, baritone and piano. Also on the programme: music by living American Queer composers Caroline Shaw, Annika Socolofsky, Eve Belgarian and deceased composers, Chris DeBlasio and David Del Tredici.
Toronto-based poet, Fan Wu, joins the proceedings, highlighted in Adam Sherkin's setting of his intimate, lyrical verse, "Caretaker of Dreams," in a world premiere by Nathaniel Sullivan with Sherkin at the piano.
Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 7:30pm: The Arts & Letters Club. Doors open at 7:00 PM; performance at 7:30pm. $25 General admission; $30 Seniors and art workers; FREE for students. Cash Bar and refreshments available throughout the performance.
