About this concert
Her first time at MOTH, ARIA-nominated, award-winning Indigenous singer and songwriter Emma Donovan will perform songs from her recent solo album ‘Til My Song is Done as well as favourites from her 20+ year career.
‘My new album is honouring that legacy of our family country music ways. That’s exactly what this album is for me, like if they’re proud and they’re happy, if the family is honoured, that’s all I need to know. And mum would be proud.’
Emma sees this album as just the beginning of her continued journey to stand strong not only for her daughters but for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women working in the Australian music industry today.
Emma has toured and recorded with some of the best in the Australian music scene, including Paul Kelly, The Teskey Brothers, Paul Grabowsky, Spinifex Gum, and the late Uncle Archie Roach and Aunty Ruby Hunter. She is now widely known for her work with the highly respected Melbourne rhythm combo The Putbacks and the extraordinary Black Arm Band project.
Supporting Emma on the night is local singer-songwriter Tulliah.

Emma Donovan & Paul Grabowsky, with a talented line up of musicians at Melbourne Recital Centre was a moving and beautiful concert of gospel songs and stories from Emma about their origins and meanings for her family back in the mission days. I hope there is recording available one day; it was so poignant and powerful.
