Honey run Biography

“Complemented by fiddle, guitar and mandolin, the tender harmonies of Kat Baker and Owen Ragland of Honey Run harken back to a summer picnic at the river, or the last time you absorbed a sunset from a meadow of tall, sweet grass. With old-timey and bluegrass roots, this folk, string duo is delivering on the intimate acoustic sound, fresh with originals and new versions of tunes you thought you knew."-Strawberry Music Festival

Honey Run brings a fun mix of thoughtful original folk music, fast picking and playing, and lively old bluegrass tunes. Beautiful harmonies, by Kat Baker and Owen Ragland are complemented by the fiddle, the mandolin and guitar. The full sound that accompanies the thoughtful lyrics and catchy melodies of Kat’s songs ranges from tender to downright fun. The eclectic mix of oldtimey roots, americana sounds, and "stellar picking" truly creates a unique experience.

Owen brings a heavy bluegrass background to all of his playing. Having the great fortune of being the son of a mandolin/guitar picker and a banjo player, he has developed a gritty lean-in playing style unlike any other. Kat began her musical journey busking on the streets of Columbia, CA as a kid. Along with her catalog of catchy heartfelt original songs and thoughtful picking, and her voice has a strong oldtime quality that rarely fails to turn ears and heads. As the pandemic began to wind down, Honey Run began touring as a bluegrass duo playing across California, Oregon, Washington and even in British Columbia.

Honey Run performed at Strawberry Music Festival 2022 and 2023 which those years hosted such legendary acts as: Sam Bush, Watkins Family Hour, The Steep Canyon Rangers, The Rainbow Girls, John Craigie, and so many more Della Mae, and Younder Mountain Stringband.

Honey Run has also performed across California and the PNW, from Seattle and Victoria, to Portland bend and Eugene, to San Francisco the Merced and Santa Luis Obispo opening for such acts as Late for the Train, Solid Gold Strangers, AJ Lee and Blue Summit.
