This was the second time I saw the band and also at Groove. I enjoyed the show last year as well as this year. The biggest improvement was the venue management. He was giving the band a hard time after the show last year, but that manager was no longer with Groove this year!!! We sat up front near Eric and the sound was perfect. Nothing distorted by volume. The food and drinks were top notch. Their merch guy, Tony, raves about the pizza place across the street. If you want a good night of Chicago blues-tinged rock, this is the band to see and likely the best place in NYC to see them. This is a band that plays as good live as they do on their albums. Not trickery or phoning it in here. These guys bleed for their craft and deserve the support and recognition reserved for their legendary influences!

The band love this historic venue and the management love them as much as their fans! Relaxing atmosphere and an overall good time. The area is historic, so take your time to spend a night and take it in. The adjacent restaurant to the venue was very good for both food and drink. The band played an extended set with a short intermission. Jeff and Joe got to play with some loaner guitars from a friend. Jeff played a Joe Perry signature, but forget which one Eric played. Both often change guitars throughout a show, but Jeff held onto that Joe Perry signature most of the night and appeared to be having a ball with it. That excitement leaked out into the audience! I had front row center-right in front of Joe B. Make sure you take a walk around the venue to hear how the sound changes in each area. Building was designed by the gentleman who designed Carnegie Hall. Very much worth checking out if you are in the area or plan to be!

This was my fourth time seeing the band in the last 12 months. It was wild coincidence that I had a need to be in St. Louis the day of the show. The opening act, Mr. Malone, wasn't bad and could've shone a bit brighter if they weren't eclipsed by the veteran Steepwater Band. It always is a good time when these guys play and get a chance to interact a little before and after the show. Very humble and down-to-earth guys, but so very talented. Some places bill them as a rock band, while others label them a blues band. This is Chicago-blues tinged rock. Stripped down and pure performances that often exceed the clarity and intensity of their 11 albums (including 3 live), 3 EPs, and a "best of" compliation. Their bio starts with, "You should know these songs" and that's the truth!!!

About The Steepwater Band
You should already know these songs. If the old saying about talent equaling success were true, then The Steepwater Band would already be a household name, rubbing shoulders with Aerosmith, Bad Company and other like-minded travelers in our collective Rock 'n Roll Fantasy. But that's not how things always work, and this band knows it and still leans into it, smiling, with everything in them, not for brass rings and marquees, but because they must! For them, the music life is a calling and not some stupid costume one puts on to shake loose gold, fame, and groupies. In a land of caricatures, it's striking to come face-to-face with the real thing.
Something primal lurks in their music, but always wrestling with emotions and stories that are everyday-ready ~ music at once strut-inducing sexy and brass knuckles honest, a sound evolved smartly & patiently through countless gigs, running the bulls whenever and wherever they've been welcomed since 1998. AC/DC once said, "If you got the dollar, we got the song / Just wanna boogie woogie all night long," and The Steepwater Band surely embodies this lip-smacking urge to get some in this mean old world, befitting the group's Chicago roots and their earthy understanding of crackling city blues.
The abiding, resounding passion inside this band is never in question. Dive into their seemingly endless catalog of songs just about anywhere, and the heart and muscle pumping away inside every track are palpable and present in a most pleasing way. Their sound is like a soundtrack for arm wrestling The Devil and then drinking shots with him 'til sunrise after you've pinned him down. Their songs bridge the miles between lovers, throw lines to brothers and sisters in need of some understanding and a spark that makes them shuffle, eyes closed, shaking off the day's heavy load, ready for another round because the right song by the right band made them feel they had enough fight left in them. That's the kind of band you're dealing with here, and they'll be doing this long after all the pretty boys, package acts, and pretenders have left the stage. - Dennis Cook
