The James Whatton Band formed in March 2024 to craft a sound that blends country grit with Southern rock swagger. Drawing from iconic influences like The Allman Brothers, Merle Haggard, and Waylon Jennings, alongside modern voices like Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, and 49 Winchester, the band fuses the timeless with the fresh. Their music features electrifying guitar riffs, soulful vocals, and a rhythm section as swampy as it is tight—creating a sound that’s unmistakably their own. The band is gearing up for their debut single, 'You'll Be Doin' Fine,' set for release this spring, and they’re excited to perform at the Music by the Mississippi festival on July 25-26. With a lineup that includes Shane Smith & the Saints, Shakey Graves, and Charlie Parr, this performance marks a huge milestone in their journey, placing them alongside some of the most exciting talent in the Americana and roots music scene.
