Joe Farnsworth Biography
Joe Farnsworth (born February 21, 1968) is an American jazz drummer. Highly regarded for his blazing speed, precision and nuance, Farnsworth is a prolific musician with over 100 recordings to his name, having performed on the greatest American and International stages.
Born in South Hadley, Massachusetts, Farnsworth grew up in a musical family; his father a bandleader and two brothers, professional musicians.
He studied with Alan Dawson and Arthur Taylor in the 1970's and enrolled in William Patterson College in New Jersey where he began playing with saxophonist, Eric Alexander and guitarist, Peter Bernstein.
Moving to New York City in 1985, he landed his first job as band leader, Friday and Saturday nights at Augie's (now Smoke Jazz & Supper Club), where he brought in and played with Junior Cook, Cecil Payne, John Ore, Big John Patton, Harold Mabern, Jr., Eddie Henderson and John Jenkins.
Mr. Farnsworth's career includes recordings, festivals and tours with the likes of Pharaoh Sanders, Horace Silver, Harold Mabern, Jr., McCoy Tyner, Cedar Walton, Diana Krall, Benny Golson, George Coleman, Johnny griffin, Lou Donaldson, Benny Green, Barry Harris and Curtis Fuller.
He is currently a member of the Pharaoh Sanders Quartet, Harold Mabern Trio and All for One Quintet with Eric Alexander and Steve Davis.
