Mark Stoney Biography
Shape-shifting eclecticism, poetic lyrics & classic melodies are the hallmarks of British songwriter, multi-instrumentalist & producer Mark Stoney.
Regarded as a “Musicians musician”, Stoney initially rose to prominence as an outlier amongst the “New Yorkshire” scene of the late noughties - his much-celebrated homegrown indie debut The Scene & The Unseen emerging as an underground hit among fellow musicians & tastemakers on both sides of the Atlantic with its diverse & inventive style; genre-hopping with consummate ease from folk-tinged bedroom indie to trip-hop, and garnering praise from the likes of Uber Producer Rick Rubin & Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner who invited him on tour with the band. As an accomplished live performer, he further shared the stage with acts such as Jamie T & Laura Marling before a few "hazy years" in Texas as a founding member the locally lauded Bobby Jealousy, releasing two albums before parting ways to resume his solo work. Stoney’s next offering, More than Animals, struck a darker tone. Eerily poetic, it proved a natural maturation of his diverse sound, refined with profoundly intimate lyrics and soaring melodic arrangements that burst with passion and depth. Since returning to his musical homeland of Sheffield shortly after its release, Stoney began working extensively as a producer and collaborator for both emerging artists and established acts in addition to contributing songs for several Hollywood film & TV soundtracks
