Generation Underground Biography
Generation Underground is an East Coast-based modern rock band, bringing a bold blend of influences and personal expression to the world with just enough grit, guts, and spirit to leave a lasting impression.
The band formed in 2014 with vocalist/guitarist and songwriter Mike Florentine at the helm, later to be joined by drummer Steve Wellz and guitarist Jared Seliber. Florentine grew up around the world of heavy metal, but his turning point was a chance meeting with Slipknot’s Shawn Crahan - best known as “Clown” - who brought the aspiring young musician sidestage for Mayhem Fest, where a glimpse of the live and wild crowd changed his life. Add to that the escapades of catching Slayer live and having his first drink with the legendary Lemmy of Motörhead, and he was hooked on all things heavy music. Generation Underground’s focus has always been heavy yet catchy songs that engage a crowd and keep them coming back for more. Their debut EP, Slaves To The World, was written and recorded with the help of John Moyer of Disturbed, launching them into their aggressive musical journey. Their influences and background range from Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, to Nu-Metal, Metalcore, and Deathcore, all combined with songwriting structure drawn from Pop. Some call them Crossover Thrash, but the band never aims to fit themselves into the mold of any subgenre, writing what feels natural and asserting their own style. Their unique style won them the Akademia Best Rock Song of 2020. Generation Underground has shared stages with the likes of Lorna Shore, Slaughter To Prevail, Escape The Fate, Doyle of The Misfits, Spite, Attila, Drowning Pool, Cattle Decapitation, Powerman 5000, Danny Worsnop of Asking Alexandria, Nonpoint, Shadow Of Intent, Carnifex, Bodysnatcher, Orthodox, Enterprise Earth, Hed Pe, The Word Alive, Traitors, Chelsea Grin (whose drummer Pablo Viveros is featured in the song and video (“Our Betrayal”), and more. They continue to grow and expand, rapidly approaching 100K YouTube Channel views, with 31K+ monthly listeners on Spotify, and featured rotation on SiriusXM and major commercial and college radio stations. With two albums and an EP under their belt, Generation Underground has more new music already on the way, with a new album set for Fall 2025
