The Stoats Biography
Formed from the ashes of their previous band Ahbril, The Stoats are an alt-rock trio blending indie, post-punk, and gothic influences to create their own unique sound. Emerging with a shared passion for pushing boundaries and expressing the complex nuances of human emotion, The Stoats began their musical journey after Ahbril went on hiatus. Rick McNerny (guitar/vocals), Karlov Argueta (bass/backing vocals), and George Llanes (drums/backing vocals) joined forces to explore new sonic landscapes, blending gritty, atmospheric guitar lines with dynamic rhythms and raw, introspective lyrics.
Inspired by heavy hitters like Fugazi, Deftones, Soundgarden, and Queens of the Stone Age, The Stoats’ music speaks to a diverse array of influences, seamlessly weaving together elements of alternative rock with the intense energy of post-punk and the somber depth of gothic sounds. Their sound is at once brooding and anthemic, pushing the listener to explore the tension between personal, political, and spiritual relationships.
Their recent release, "Hold Me Down," is available on all major streaming platforms, along with its accompanying music video on YouTube. The song delves into the complexities of a relationship caught between desire and dependency, with the video featuring cryptic imagery that hints at an intense, cyclical bond—one that keeps two people bound together, despite the weight of their connection. With its lingering sense of tension, the video invites viewers to interpret the delicate balance between holding on and drifting apart.
Currently, The Stoats are hard at work on two additional releases, with their highly anticipated debut EP tentatively slated for launch in April/May of 2025. With new music on the horizon and a growing fanbase, The Stoats are ready to take their introspective and electrifying sound to new heights.
