The Skavelinas Biography
Ska Band from Arizona
The Skavelinas are known to bounce crowds with their playful antics and unique brand of infectious and danceable skacore music. Individually, members of the group have experience across an eclectic range of genres including metal, punk, reggae, ska, hip-hop and jazz. Collectively, The Skavelinas project raw and bouncy tunes guaranteed to elevate moods and move a crowd.
Origins
The group initially came together when singer/songwriter Tyler Bowers and drummer Reggie Breen combined their love of the upbeat style of ska music to form a band. In 2023, bassist Mauro DePasquale was recruited, accompanied by his son, Lil’Mauro on trumpet and backup vocals. The Skavelinas were born. Saxophonist Dane Clifford joined the squadron soon after. The band has performed regularly in venues across Arizona and their first EP, “The Barbershop Sessions” was released on all major platforms on November 1, 2024.
Musical Influences
With influences from bands such as The Specials, The Aggrolites, Rancid and Bad Brains, The Skavelinas blended tastes in music delivers a unique skacore sound.
Community Involvement
Tyler and Reggie collaborated with Cottonwood, Arizona’s Public Library to form “Get Out and Skate.” This community event outfitted neighborhood kids with complete skateboards and provided free skate lessons allowing them to experience the thrill of skateboarding.
The Skavelinas were selected to be part of Ska Punk Daily’s “Ska is for Nerds,” an exclusive mail order CD compilation that features twenty ska bands from all over the world. The CD is available for purchase at Roaddogmerch.com.
