Dorothy Bird Biography
Atmospheric, deep, and full of emotion, Dorothy Bird blends singer-songwriter art-pop with ethereal synths and acoustic intimacy. Her songs explore themes of connection, loss, self-discovery and hope.
Born in East Berlin, she spent part of her youth in Bulgaria, absorbing its rich choral traditions. She studied music in Bremen, Germany, before moving to Liverpool to fully commit to her artistry. After losing her voice following her mother’s passing, songwriting became her way to rediscover it.
Her debut album "Belonging" and three EPs received critical praise, with "Belonging" described as “masterful” (fifty3) and “uplifting and haunting” (Joyzine). Her upcoming album, "Whispering Paper", is being released on 2 May 2025. The album delves into emotional landscapes, offering space for connection, hope and reflection.
Already compared to Beth Gibbons and Kate Bush, Dorothy Bird’s sound is unique and “characteristically individual” – Neil March, Fresh on the Net. Personal highlights were performing at Liverpool’s Yoko Ono Lennon Tung Auditorium in 2024 and receiving support from BBC Introducing. Her latest single "Dream With Me" invites listeners to dream a world of open dialogue and honesty.
