DJ Houseplants Biography
DJ Houseplants is the alias of American-Cambodian DJ, producer, and designer Justin Av.
He got his start playing drums in punk and doom metal bands before transitioning to electronic music,
exploring sounds ranging from shoegaze to IDM. After a long stint producing rap during the “Soundcloud
Rap” era, spinning Seattle clubs with the likes of Zaytoven, ESTA, and IAMNOBODI, he relocated to
Brooklyn, NY. While he's known as a pioneer in the lofi house community, his sound mixes elements of
UKG, Jungle, Breaks, and other types of bass music with a Rap/RnB sensibility. A graphic designer
working in fashion, a botanist in the gardening community, a first generation immigrant from Cambodia—
he lets his life experiences inform the type of music he makes, inviting you to explore music through a
more introspective lens. Driven by the vibrancy of house and techno shows, he channels the spirit of the
community to amplify the energy of the dance floor.
