The Washington Balalaika Society

The Washington Balalaika Orchestra is excited to present our spring concert, Fairytales! If you have never heard a "symphony" orchestra playing authentic folk instruments, then you are in for a real treat! There will be domras in all voices, prima through bass. Balalaikas lead the way in five voices, starting with prima and including the impressive kontrabass section! The wind section includes bayans, accordions, flutes, oboes, and clarinets. This concert's musical selections will tantalize the audience with stories from around the world, brought to life by the powerful voice of soprano, Olga Orlovskaya, and the spell-binding playing of balalaika virtuoso, Andrei Saveliev. The concert includes well-known pieces such as Rimsky -Korsakov's Scheherazade, Tchaikovsky's The Snow Maiden, music from Borodin's well- known opera, Prince Igor, and several passionate pieces from Bizet's opera, Carmen.
