New London Big Band

CD Release Concert: Don’t Stop Now: The Lost Music of Thad Jones Led by trombonist and composer Sean Nelson, the New London Big Band is a “full bodied and polished brassy big band” (Jazz Weekly) made up of 17 of the finest musicians in New England. Formed in 2016, they play monthly to sold out crowds at the Social Bar + Kitchen in New London, where they attract professional and amateur dancers from near and far. Their album, Social Hour, released to critical acclaim on Summit Records, is “a smartly swinging young crew…their beat can’t be beat, and they know and show that swing is the thing.” (Midwest Record) The album received airplay globally and charted on the jazz radio charts. The band performed an album release concert for a sold out audience at the famed Birdland Jazz Club. This concert is FREE. Please read the information below to understand what policies will be in place for the concert. Cancellations: If it looks like inclement weather on the day of the concert, we will make the call to move indoors by noon and update our website event page accordingly. Parking: The North Lot at Stonington Commons at 32 Water Street will be available until it is full. Parking in Stonington Borough in the summer can be a challenge. Residents of Stonington Borough are encouraged to walk. Additional tips can be found here. Seating: We will open for seating at 5 p.m. Please bring your own lawn chairs or blankets, as none will be provided. No dogs are allowed on the Stonington Commons Green. Food and Drink: Please feel free to bring your own food, but not your own liquor. Trash cans will be available on the perimeter of the green for your use. Restrooms: Restrooms are available inside La Grua Center. Running Time: Each concert will last approximately one hour, with no intermission.
