Miles Zurawell Biography
Raised in small town Alberta, Miles Zurawell was immersed in a wide range of music at an early age. A self-taught guitarist in his formative years, he fell in love with bluegrass and old-time music when he was inspired to pick the banjo by a professor while studying biology. Soon after, he discovered the dobro as well. In 2018 he put his biology career on hold to focus intently on learning the dobro. Seeking out the best teachers in North America, Zurawell began touring with regional Canadian bluegrass acts and singer-songwriters, and internationally with the Greg Blake Band. An accomplished accompanist, you’ll find Zurawell putting his dobro, banjo, guitar, and lap steel to work on diverse acoustic-based musical acts in Canada and abroad.
With a passion for folk music of all types, especially those centred around the fiddle, Zurawell has been exploring diverse fiddle traditions on the dobro and banjo, which is the focus of his debut album, Far Afield.
