No No Boy

A musician-historian, Julian Saporiti, and his celebrated No-No Boy project offer a powerful and immersive experience of Asian American history. No-No Boy explores complex narratives of imperialism and trauma, as well as the unexpected joys found through music. Drawing on decades of research and relationship-building, Saporiti's work delves into the varied experiences of Asian Americans, from prisoners in Japanese American internment camps who formed a jazz band, to Vietnamese musicians discovering rock 'n' roll. Saporiti's personal journey and family history also shape his artistry and sound. This concert will also include a conversation between Julian Saporiti and Chanhee Heo (PhD candidate in Religious Studies (ARGC) and Public Humanities Fellow at Stanford).
