About this concert

In 1959, the Lilac Festival began with a call from a cultural figure to hold an event with a strong cultural flavor during the season when the lilac flowers are in full bloom. In 1960, the lilac was selected as a tree of Sapporo, and it has become a tree familiar to citizens as it can be seen in the gardens of every house. Today, it has become established among the citizens as a festival that heralds the arrival of early summer in Sapporo, and has grown into a spring event that represents Sapporo.

Born and raised on the estuary of the River Thames in Essex England and having lived in Louisiana USA, Spain and now Hokkaido Japan, David SweetLow’s music has a certain worldly shape to it, not settling in any one place for long, constantly on the move.
His acoustic musical style with touches of folk, Americana and the mystery of his now Hokkaido home, his music will take you on a journey from his gritty English roots to the snowy beauty of Japan’s northernmost island.
