Join Merak Machine for an evening of music and dancing feraturing Taraf Grozav. Taraf Grozav brings you rural, primitive and acoustic sounds from Romanian villag es. Marked by the haunted tones of the little È›ambal, earthy and exuberant songs take flight in this new ensemble. Adorned with trills and embellishments, this is strong old music made of equal parts humour and sorrow, that has captivated audiences all over the world in performances by famous groups like the Taraf de Haidouks. Members of Super Rats have reconfigured into Taraf Grozav, featuring some different Romanian repertoire and aiming for a rougher, unamplified texture. Perhaps if Super Rats is a fine plum brandy, then Taraf Grozav is a smuggled bottle of Grandfather’s eyelash-singeing moonshine. Each has its charm in its own time!
