Jazz pianist Mathias Algotsson was born in 1971 and studied at the Royal Music Conservatory in Stockholm 1992-96. Since then he has been a sought after pianist performing around the world with artists such as Barbara Hendricks, Magnus Lindgren and Rigmor Gustafsson among others. He collaborates on duo with Margareta Bengtson (the Real Group) and Svante Henryson. Mathias has a great ability to move between different genres and contexts and is also a appreciated and renowned composer. He has written music for choir, for instance for the Sofia Vokalensemble, Gustaf Sjökvists chamber choir and is published on Gehrmans Musikförlag. Mathias has made six albums in his own name so far, for example two trio albums on the japanese label ”Spice of Life” and latest ”Home at Work Again” with his own ”drum less” quartet and also a number of solo piano singles and EP´s. Mathias has in addition to Europe also performed several times in Japan (own trio and duo) and has also received awards from Sollentuna municipality, STIM, SKAP, Swedish artists´ committee and also the Arne Domnérus award ”Guldsaxen” as the only non-saxophone player. Mathias is also a Steinway Spirio recording artist.
