Wed-Apr-30: BROWNMAN's "A Taste Of Miles (part of Brownman's West Coast Touring run) ---- From Brooklyn, NY, internationally acclaimed 2x National Jazz Award winning jazz trumpet iconoclast BROWNMAN ALI will delight audiences with a Wed night concert focused on the ubiquitous MILES DAVIS featuring selected works from Miles' catalog. On April 30, 2025, the Wild Fig Restaurant + Bar in Coquitlam, BC, will host an electrifying performance by BROWNMAN ALI, a Trinidadian-born, Brooklyn, NY based jazz trumpet iconoclast and protege of the great Randy Brecker. When not leading the 8 bands he actively writes for and tours with, Brownman is a highly sought after soloist, the current touring trumpet player for hip-hop icons Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Missy Elliot, was nominated for a 2024 JUNO award for “Jazz Album of the Year”, after already winning Canada’s Black IMPACT Award (the first jazz musician in history to win this), and has been heralded as “Canada’s preeminent jazz trumpet player” by the New York Village Voice, “the new standard in electric jazz” by NPR, New York (National Public Radio), and “one of the most exploratory voices in jazz trumpet today” by the Chicago Tribune. In 2024, he won the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) taking 1st place in the Jazz Category, from a field of 17,000 submissions from 120 countries for his composition "Wisdom of Aurelius". Brownman is also the CEO of Browntasauras Records in Brooklyn, NY, home to the 8 groups he leads and artists he has mentored and produced, where the label’s mandate is to “catalyze the creation of new jazz art”, and where 100% of all proceeds go directly back to the Artists on the label.
