About this concert
Although Monica has touched many of us here on the Cape, from her artistry to her non-profit supporting young musicians, her career and music occupy a much larger place in the national Americana-Roots music scene. After many years fronting the award-winning folk band Tripping Lily, she has crafted her solo work from her personal experiences growing up in Texas, fused with a modern New England twist on life. Her songwriting draws on retrospective glimpses of universal experiences with a topping of upbeat silver linings, and has often been described as deeply personal, with a blending of southern charm and modern living. Her debut album Washashore Cowgirl earned a nomination for Country Album of the Year by the Independent Music Awards in 2016. Billboard described her 2019 album Sunshine is Free as featuring "delicate acoustic guitar, steady percussion, soaring electric guitar parts, and warm vocals.” Monica’s collaborations include appearances with folk icon Tom Rush, and with Raul Malo, the lead singer of the country-rock group The Mavericks. We are thrilled to welcome Monica back to the Carport stage, this time with her full band, “The Round Up”, which includes a fabulous set of talented musicians from around New England!
