About this concert
Karl Seglem Quartet
Karl Seglem, tenor sax, goat horn, poetry/voice
Erlend Viken, fiddles, voice
Hallvard Gaardløs, bass, voice
Kåre Opheim, drums, voice
Sound-engineer: Ingar Hunskaar
Norway's foremost goat horn player and tenor saxophonist has an impressive
drive to constantly explore the relationship between folk music and jazz - and
everything around, everything outside. It is difficult to put a label on Karl
Seglem. He has created his own sound universe, his own genre so to speak.
And music is for him a vital and personal form of expression. Let's call it world
heritage folkjazz, since much of the inspiration for the creation process comes
from the diverted Norwegian folk music landscapes, - and fjords. The quartet
presents music from a long series of his many albums: 43 fysical releases by
2024, where critically acclaimed Mytevegar, Nunatak, Nordic Balm, Ossicles,
Som spor, New North are central. Soundscapes where both mountain home,
sand dunes, asphalt jungle, undulating forest and life-giving water can be
heard. Over-whelmingly extroverted, beautifully energetic, poetic Nordic music.
