Ruby Shabazz Biography
Ruby’s musical journey began in her birth place of Roxbury, MA., an area rich in music history with the likes of New Edition and Hip Hop Legend Edo G. Witnessing local acts make it to the national stage inspired her to dream of a music career of her own.
Her influences include many of the the R&B and Motown greats. As a young girl she loved to sit in her room and play her parents vinyl collection of Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder on her Fisher Price record player. Her teenage years then brought influences from Sade, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston which shaped her love for pop music and R&B. Listening to these artists also encouraged her to try her hand in songwriting.
It wasn’t until her college years at UMass Lowell that Ruby officially pursued her own path as a singer/songwriter. She lent her soulful voice and polished songwriting skills to recording sessions as well as performed with bands in and around the Boston area.
Over the years Ruby has had the opportunity to be featured on many projects throughout New England, some of which received national radio airplay. Songs like “Back in the Dayz” produced by Ski Beatz which hit #1 on the college radio charts. Other accomplishments include co-writing the song “Ain’t No Love” which won the 2022 New England Songwriting Competition and being requested to perform at the 2022 & 2023 New England Music Awards.
Now living in New Hampshire, Ruby has been named queen of Hip Hop and R&B by NH Magazine. In a full circle moment, she is working on the release of new music for 2024 which will include production by the legendary Boston Hip Hop artist Edo G, French producer Samerican and New Hampshire producers Byron G. & Fee the Evolutionist.
