Maud the moth Biography

Maud the Moth is the alter ego of Amaya López-Carromero, a Spanish-born and Scotland-based pianist, singer and songwriter with a strongly independent artistic drive. Stylistically, Amaya uses her classical background as a loom upon which to weave sonic tapestries riddled with distorted or effected pianos and driven by an enigmatic and deeply moving voice.

Her evocative songwriting and cathartic live performances have attracted performance opportunities from many International festivals and venues such as Roadburn (NL), Primavera Sound (ES), AMFest 2022 (ES), Ancient Echoes (DE), Rock in Bourlon (Fr), Festival Noroeste (ES), Celtic connections (UK), Noite Branca (PT), Ronnie Scott's (UK), Brudenell Piano Session (UK) and CCCB (ES) amongst many others.
Maud the moth has also been invited to perform as guest artist by Chelsea Wolfe , Kayo Dot , Anna von Hausswolff Hexvessel and Helen Money.
She will be touring in support of Earth in the UK and Ireland in May 2025 and will be performing at ArcTanGent 2025.

Her new album " The Distaff ", funded by Creative Scotland, released in February 2025 to excellent reviews from Prog magazine, Angry Metal Guy 5/5 Albums, The Skinny, Mondosonoro etc. Lead single "Siphonophores" was featured by Mary Anne Hobbs as a Hit Reset track of the week, and the album was also included in the Mastered at Abbey Road series.

Amaya is also part of the band Healthyliving.
