About this concert
Where music and history collide in an evening with Linda Mckenzie in the courtyard at the Chamberlin Inn. Friday, July 18, 2025 (6 to 8 PM) 1032 12th St. ~ Cody, WY 82414 Join us in the courtyard of this quaint, historic Inn (where Ernest Hemingway once stayed). The Chamberlin Inn is is one of Cody's oldest buildings, a meticulously restored gem, and has been a gathering place for travelers, artists, writers, and dreamers since 1903. Early 20th century architecture abounds and on an evening like this, you could forget just what decade you are living in. Linda brings an intimate evening of music and stories in song. Here is a little History on the Inn and it's visionary owner, Agnes Chamberlin: In the early 1900's, the Chamberlin Inn became THE place to stay in Cody, Wyoming. Early uses of the building included one of the first legit dental offices in the area, then later expanding to become a Circuit Judge Courthouse (which is 1 of the oldest buildings in Cody), and then finally becoming an Inn/Boarding House operated by its owner, Agnes Chamberlin, A 1910 photograph of Buffalo Bill Cody hangs on one of the conference room walls, with Cody posing with (then) newly elected County officials standing outside of the building when it was part of the court house doors. As an Inn, the Chamberlin became noted for hosting for an array of affluent actors, authors, politicians, opera singers, movie stars, and tycoons. It is documented in the Inn's Guest Register that Ernest Hemingway stayed here while working on his creative writings in 1932, where he completed the manuscript for his book "Death in the Afternoon". After a few days of fishing on the nearby Clarks' Fork River, Hemingway mailed his manuscript to his publishers and then promptly went back to fishing by day and swapping stories by night with the locals at Buffalo Bills' Irma Bar (another prominent building in Cody on Main Street). The "Hemingway Room" has since been meticulously restored at the Chamberlin to reflect the lifestyle of Hemingway's era. The Inn's curator and visionary, Agnes Chamberlin, was an accomplished pianist, who appreciated music and ended up chartering the "Cody Music Club" where Aggie (as she fondly was called) became a pillar of the Cody community. Her hotel dining room was the place that the very first Cody Chamber meeting was held and documented. Additionally, she was instrumental in building Cody's Methodist and Presbyterian Churches, and later donated the land for only Cody Airport. Her love of music had her dedicate the local radio station KODI just before her passing in 1947. In one sense, this building is quiet, but in another sense, you can almost hear Aggie's piano music lingering down the hallways of the historic Chamberlin Inn.
