Jim Malone Biography
Singer songwriter Jim Malone has traveled many roads. As a band leader and solo artist he’s shared the stage with Little Feat, Tori Amos, Edie Brickell, Phish, Widespread Panic, NRBQ, Nils Lofgren and more. On 7 albums, starting in the 90’s, Malone was at the forefront of the jam band craze (Left Exit), & the alt-country movement (Standpipe). Through it all, the common thread is the well-earned title, singer songwriter.
In '07, Jim began releasing a series of self-produced solo albums called Malone Alone, each one named after a color of the prism spectrum, starting with Malone Alone Red in '07 and Orange in '08.
After a 15 year detour into woodworking (his company, CounterEvolution, made all the tables for the first 200 Shack Shacks, all from reclaimed bowling lanes), Jim is back with a new album, Malone Alone Yellow, and a new band, The Jim Malone Band.
In the tradition of his strongest influences, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and John Price, Malone specializes in songs that tell stories without beating you over the head with a message. His band features a combination of mainstays and a rotating roster of featured performers. All friends, all having a good time. With band influences ranging from the Dead to traditional folk, country and jazz, The Jim Malone Band takes Jim's songs to another level, making for a full-range musical journey in every performance.
Jim is also a producer and owner of Little Big North Recording Retreat in Catskill, NY.
