Mostacho Xprmnt Biography
Mostacho Xprmnt was founded by Costa Rican drummer and composer Andres Marin. It currently consists of Luis D'Elías on guitar and Dave Lowenthal on bass, performing original music in a trio format. And yes, Luis and I sing now!
The band consolidated in 2013 in New York City with Najwa Mahiaddin, Eitan Akman and Haruka Yabuno. It started as a creative outlet that disregarded stylistic boundaries and genre tags, therefore embracing an experimental quality. After a couple of years working with Malaysian singer Najwa, the band developed a strong NeoSoul and R&B sound while still mixing elements of jazz, funk, rock and latin rhythms. Some of their influences include Erykah Badu, Esperanza Spalding, Snarky Puppy and Hiatus Kaiyote. In April 2016, the band's first single "Que Mae Mas Raro" featured Song Yi Jeon on vocals, Dave Lowenthal on bass, Luis D'Elías on guitar and Miguel Gallardo on keys. In 2017 singer Leala Cyr takes over the front-woman spot for the group and records 4 songs with the band which are going to be part of the album Dream Fulfillment Handbook.
They have performed at Rockwood Music Hall, The Shrine, ShapeShifter Lab, Williamsburg Music Hall and many more in New York City as well venues in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Malaysia.
