The chemistry of this band is extraordinary and their live performances are filled with a powerful diversity and virtuosity that often defies belief.
At any rate there were several occasions when I noticed members of the audience gazing at one another in disbelief, somehow seeking confirmation from one another of the reality they were experiencing. Not that this was in any sense a comfortable ride. There were moments when the level of intensity was almost painful. This was written all over the guitarists face as she negotiated some of the more difficult passages, but they always crescendoed into a visible torrent of joy as the band resumed their ensemble. It is redundant and probably futile to attempt to single out any of the individual members of this trio as they are so fundamentally complementary. What stands out so strikingly for me is the quality of the composition, which is all the time breaking new ground whilst somehow being anchored to a deep and infectious sense of rhythm. No doubt attributable to the visceral commitment of Ellen Brekken and Ivar Loe Bjornstad. I think it would be very hard to find another jazz rock group capable of such a spirited performance, and who take such an obvious delight in bringing great music to their audience. If you get a chance to see them, don't miss it!

Hedvig Mollestad Biography
Hedvig Mollestad Trio:
A Sonic Odyssey of Jazz-Rock Fusion
Hedvig Mollestad Trio is not your average band. Their music defies genre boundaries, captivating audiences with its uncompromising blend of jazz, rock, and everything in between. Often described as "Jazz Sabbath," their sound is a lovechild of Mahavishnu Orchestra and Black Sabbath, with a touch of Terje Rypdal and King Crimson thrown into the mix. But labels aside, what truly sets this trio apart is their ability to make you throw your hands in the air and grin from ear to ear, or nod along with a cold beer in hand, feeling like life is at its peak.
Their live performances are legendary, exuding an energy that's infectious and a joy that's palpable. As Rolling Stone aptly puts it, "The Hedvig Mollestad Trio delivers avant-guitar adventure with an exuberant sense of occasion, live and on record. Feel free to come as you are."
Whether you're a jazz aficionado, a rock enthusiast, or simply someone who loves great music, Hedvig Mollestad Trio invites you to join them on their sonic odyssey – A journey as bone-crunchingly powerful as it is graciously poetic.
