“ The Horizon Just Laughed is stuffed with so many people and places it’s more like teleportation than travel. In less than forty minutes, we’re whisked through Nebraska, Maine, Arizona, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Texas, and Jurado’s home state of Washington, with stops in Seattle, Wenatchee, and Mount Rainier. The songs are addressed, often in epistolary form and always confidingly, to female interlocutors with names like Mary, Lucy, Vera, Alice, Mali H., Cindy Lee, Lou-Jean, and Florence-Jean. The dramatis personae include novelist Thomas Wolfe, inventor Garrett Morgan, sitcom actor Marvin Kaplan, easy-listening bandleaders Percy Faith and Ray Conniff, Peanuts creator Charles Schultz, that news anchor who was held hostage on-air, the guy who wrote “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh,” the angel Moroni, Lucifer, and God.” - Brian Howe/Spin Magazine

“Maybe you should take a picture of me, stow me away in your memory,” Stevan Alva sings in “Kodak,” the sentimental opening track on St. Yuma’s latest album, “Country Sleight of Hand,” recorded by Marshall Pruitt at the Unknown in Anacortes, Washington. Founded in the spring of 2015 in Seattle, WA, St. Yuma serves as the musical outlet for Alva’s writing and sonic curiosity, whether with a band or solo. Evoking emotional depth through a unique vocal delivery and spacious sound, St. Yuma continues to explore in the forthcoming album, entitled "Trout Man," scheduled to be released in 2025. https://styuma.bandcamp.com/music

St. Yuma Biography
St. Yuma, established in 2015 “St. Yuma” serves as the creative outlet for singer/songwriter Stevan Alva. Whether performing solo or with a band, the objective has always been to evoke emotional depth through music and sonic exploration, drawing inspiration from artists like Damien Jurado, Califone, Silver Jews, and Wilco. St. Yuma’s latest offering "Country Sleight of Hand" was crafted during and after singer-songwriter Alva's departure from Texas following the passing of his father, ultimately settling in Seattle, WA. The backdrop of Alva's new beginnings in Seattle provided an inspiring setting to confront and compose the new record. Thematically, the album delves into the complexities of death, love, and life's uncertainties. Recorded at The Unknown in Anacortes, WA, the album boasts a diverse sonic palette, beautifully captured and mixed by Marshall Pruitt of Austin, TX.
